You’ve heard the expression whistle stop tour – well, Darla and James had just that with Tour the Valley, as they literally had 1 day to explore the Yarra Valley when their cruise ship Celebrity Solstice docked in Melbourne from Sydney.

Their brief to us was to try as many of our Yarra Valley wines as possible, in one day, whilst not missing the boat when it set sail that afternoon for New Zealand!

So John collected them from Port Melbourne bright and early at 8.30am to make the most of their time and took them straight to Coombe Melba Estate kicking off their day’s tour with some Yarra Valley history and they enjoyed hearing about Dame Nellie Melba and marvelling at the buildings and memorabilia.

He then took them for a wine tasting under the beautiful elm trees at St Huberts, showing them one of the valley’s oldest wineries and then on to Yering Station so they could experience a wine tasting at one of our top shelf wineries.

John then drove them up to the look out at Maroondah Dam so they could enjoy the serene view out across the water catchment before driving them to Tokar Estate Winery where they had a wine tasting before lunch and enjoyed a very relaxed time over their food and wine.

On the way back to Port Melbourne John managed to fit in a quick drive down Collins Street to show them a little of our city – and they can go back to Florida telling their friends they’ve seen Melbourne and the Yarra Valley!

Darla and James really enjoyed their day and loved the Yarra Valley and would love to spend more time here – so we’re looking forward to their next visit when we can show them some more of the wineries and wonderful places to visit in the Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges!
