Why Kiwis visiting Melbourne HAVE to try Yarra Valley wines

It’s always fascinating visiting a wine region if you’re from another wine region.  We get so used to tasting, drinking and enjoying our own region’s wine – but it’s good for us to try new wines too.  So when Marcella, Angela, Justine, Di, Lara and Lilly came all the way from New Zealand to stay in Docklands and enjoy Cup Week and celebrate Justine’s birthday, they wisely decided to enjoy a day out touring the Yarra Valley privately, just with their own group.  They wanted to try our wines and catch up with one another including Justine’s son Ben who had come down from Brisbane to celebrate her birthday and join in with Cup Week celebrations.
So John collected the group from Melbourne and drove them out to the Yarra Valley taking them straight to Helen and Joeys, to introduce them to the Yarra Valley’s most famous of unicorns, Bruce, and so they could enjoy an informative wine tasting on the deck with Stephen Powell, the cellar door manager.
Then they set off to St Huberts where they enjoyed their tasting and had fun comparing New Zealand wine to our Yarra Valley wines!  Always dangerous territory!
The group thoroughly enjoyed lunch, after their wine tasting at Tokar Estate Winery and they took their time and relaxed and chatted for a few hours.
John finished off their day with a visit to the other side of the valley, to Steels Creek and Greenstone Vineyards where Joanne Tate gave them a great insight into their wines and the making.
Then it was time to get them back to Docklands as they had a big day the next day, off to Flemington for Cup Day – being in Docklands they were going to the races by boat, and were very excited to be here in our beautiful city enjoying our big race day.
If you would like to organise a day out for YOUR family or friends, especially with Christmas fast approaching, get in touch and let’s see what we can arrange.
