How many times have you heard someone say – ‘Give someone the gift of an experience, rather than yet more stuff’.  New research suggests that if your goal is to make the recipient happy, you’ll have better luck giving an experience rather than material things.  And that’s because in our affluent society, if we want something we’re in the fortunate position to go and get it for ourselves.  But to give someone the opportunity to spend time with loved ones, to be given the chance to spend a day together and create lasting memories – that is a thoughtful gift that REALLY shows you care.

And that’s what happened to Katrina when her friends at her calisthenics group clubbed together and bought her a Half Day Tour the Valley Gift Voucher for her 50th Birthday.

She was thrilled and decided to enjoy the day with her daughter Hayley and they treated themselves to a two-night stay at a gorgeous cottage at farmstay Wiggley Bottom Farm
just outside Healesville, where they loved the welcoming geese at the bottom of the driveway and the owners’ three beautiful dogs.

We collected Katrina and Hayley mid morning and drove them over to de Bortoli’s for a wine and cheese tasting where Katrina enjoyed the reds, Hayley the whites and (unsurprisingly) both loved the cheeses.

We then called in to Yering Station Winery for a wine tasting in their gorgeous old red brick heritage art gallery/cellar door before heading to Many Hands Winery for a fabulous lunch washed down with a glass of wine.  It was a lovely opportunity for them all to catch up together as Katrina and Many Hands Winery owners Jenny & Tony are old friends and the girls enjoy calisthenics together.

After their lovely long lunch we finished off the half day tour with a wine tasting at lovely boutique winery, Maddens Rise with delightful Emma before heading back to Wiggley Bottom Farm where the mother and daughter duo were looking forward to a relaxing night.

They had already plotted that they would go to Soumah the next day for lunch (great choice, stunning wines, amazing views) before heading back to Blackburn and Mornington respectively after a lovely time away together in the Yarra Valley.

So if you would like to give someone the gift of an experience, rather than a material ‘thing’, call us today and let’s discuss your options for a Tour the Valley gift voucher – you can choose the amount (they are available in $50 increments), and are valid for a year.
