Fiona toured with us in December with work colleagues for their Christmas break, and enjoyed it so much that she came to us to help tailor a tour for her 35th birthday celebrations, in the Yarra Valley with a group of friends – “35 tastings for 35 years”.  We loved this idea and are proud to say we topped that – and helped them achieve 38 tastings all up!!!!!

John collected them from the CBD bright and early to ensure we could manage the day’s itinerary and first stop was Coombe Melba Estate for coffee and colleague Shamistha’s beautiful home-made birthday cup cakes – followed by a wine tasting with the lovely Gordon at the cellar door.  They loved the Dame Nellie Melba memorabilia, grand old buildings and beautifully maintained gardens.

Helen & Joey’s was our next port of call and after the wine tasting they had fun with the Unicorn on the deck, with its staggering view.  Winery owner Helen kindly gave Fiona a bottle of wine to celebrate her birthday which was a gorgeous gesture.  St Huberts cellar door was next, virtually over the road, and the enormous oak trees outside the cellar door were a big hit.

Oakridge Wines followed for a tasting where the group loved the extraordinary view and the chic modern building.  Our last stop before lunch was the lovely boutique winery, Squitchy Lane, in Maddens Lane where we realised they had reached 38 tastings already! This news made Paula decidedly sleepy so she curled up on the seat in the bus for a quick snooze – just to refresh before lunch!!

Lunch took the form of a 2 hour banquet lunch at Meletos from 2.30 – 4.30pm with amazing food that just kept on coming to the table.  Quite how I’m not sure, but they enjoyed yet more wine with lunch and our Tour the Valley bus was full of wine they’d bought from every cellar door we visited!

The return journey back to the city involved no more tastings – the group had achieved what they set out to do (and more) and were a really happy bunch.

It was great that they chose Tour the Valley again for their celebration and we were thrilled to help give them a fun-filled tour.
