Peta and Tania are old school friends and were looking forward to a day together in the Yarra Valley. Peta now lives in Perth and Tania on the Mornington Peninsula but the pair meet a few times a year either in Australia or overseas. We collected them from their accommodation at Furmiston House in Healesville on Saturday and made our first visit to Coombe – Nellie Melba’s Estate for a tour of the buildings and memorabilia and they loved its heritage.
St Huberts, one of the oldest wineries here in the Yarra Valley was our next stop for a super wine tasting and then we set off to Meletos where the pair enjoyed a Yarra Valley cider and beer tasting paddle and they loved everything about the properties and concept.
There’s something so special about tiny boutique winery Maddens Rise so we popped in for a tasting where the lovely Emma looked after the girls beautifully and remembered Tania from a recent previous visit! What a great little cellar door with lovely wine and of course Emma’s amazing creative decorations (she was a florist in a former life and it shows – we always look forward to her next decorative installation).
It was a beautiful day for lunch at Tokar Estate Winery with their staggering views out across the valley and the girls enjoyed a glass of wine with their lunch. And then it seemed right to take them to Coldstream Hills, one of our best loved cellar doors where they loved the Pinot.
We rounded off the day with a visit to new cellar door Many Hands Winery in Coldstream where owner Tony presented us with a beautiful cheese and dip platter with their wine tasting. They thought the view and building was great, especially the terrazzo floor (if you haven’t seen it yet, you’re in for a treat).
John dropped the happy pair back to their accommodation at 5.30pm after a fabulous fun full days touring in the valley.
