When a group of three friends now live far from one another in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, it’s important for them to get together for a weekend every now and then and get caught up.  And that’s exactly what Clare, Jackie and Lorraine did – they booked themselves lovely accommodation at Ferny Glade in Warburton and worked with us to put together a personalised Yarra Valley wine tour.

Picking them up from their accommodation (nothing beats door to door service) John took them to Paynes Rise Winery where they not only enjoyed their first wine tasting of the day, they also rather fell for a Variety Club car that was at the winery as part of a function. Perhaps we should offer tours in it – it was pretty fabulous!  After photos of the girls and car had been taken, they set off for their second tasting for the day at Morgans Estate where they liked the wine so much they purchased some and admired the terrific view.

Lunch was a sharing affair, at Killara Estate Winery, where they enjoyed their glass of wine with antipasto, pizza and tortellini, and of course that tremendous view.

After lunch, John stopped in at Coombe Estate, Dame Nellie Melba’s former residence, so they could admire the grounds, the old buildings and the impressive clock tower and ‘cottage’ that Nellie once called home.  After all that fresh air, a cleansing ale was called for, so they set off for Meletos where the friends sampled the cider and beer paddle and sat outside in the sunshine admiring the lovely gardens.  Given that it’s autumn, the vines were ‘on the turn’ so the colours were rather beautiful.

Nothing beats a little tasting of sparkling does it, and nobody does it better than Chandon, home of such things, so they group enjoyed a glass or two and then topped the day off with a visit to the Chocolaterie to enjoy some Belgian hand-made choccies and some small purchases were made!!  It was a great way to finish a lovely day and John then dropped them back to their accommodation in Warburton, so they could have a relaxing evening together before heading back to their various homes/cities on Sunday.
