From your Cruise Ship in Port Melbourne to a Yarra Valley Day Tour

When you’re from Arizona and your cruise ship from Sydney arrives in Melbourne and allows you a day’s shore leave and you’re ‘into wine’ like Robin, Michael, Ed and Rose, what better way to spend your time on terra firma than in our region famed for its cool climate wines – Victoria’s Yarra Valley.  Fortunately the group found us online and chose us because we create itineraries around what you want to see and do, and we planned the perfect day’s private tour of the Yarra Valley based on their preferences.

John collected the group from Port Melbourne’s Station Pier on Tuesday at 9am, straight off their Holland America cruise ship.  Many passengers were happy to do a day’s tour of Melbourne, but being wine lovers, this foursome decided sensibly to contact us and plan a great day’s touring in our stellar wine country.  We start their day at Coombe Yarra Valley – Dame Nellie Melba’s Estate, to enjoy the memorabilia as Ed’s daughter is an opera singer and his son a composer who studied at Melbourne University, so they really enjoyed learning about Dame Nellie Melba, Australia’s most famous opera singer and visiting her historic home.

We love it when our customers have done their research and know what they want to see on their tour with us and Michael was keen to visit Coldstream Hills and Yarra Yering (a man of fine taste) and the group loved both wineries and tastings and bought wine to be sent back home.

We lunched at Tokar Estate Winery where they enjoyed a beautiful meal and were impressed with their wines.  It must have been a lovely change from the ship, to be able to enjoy a glass of wine with lunch overlooking roses and vineyards to the distant hills – it is a spectacular spot.

After lunch John took them to the Chocolaterie for some chocolate indulgence and to enjoy the free samples, although I fear Tour the Valley may be banned from future visits as Michael was caught “double dipping ” in the dark chocolate bowl!!

With time for a tasting at one more cellar door before returning them to the ship, the group had read great things about Yering Station on the Melba Highway so John obliged and they really enjoyed the wine tasting and looking through the gorgeous produce in the shop.

When you have a ship to catch you need to be able to rely on your driver 100%, so John ensured he had them back to the ship by 4.10pm for their 4.30pm deadline after a really wonderful day in the Yarra Valley – and we hope to see them back here again!!!!
