Phil & Andrew and their 2-year old son Jonathan live near Napa in California and were after a wine tour of the Yarra Valley seeing cellar doors with character, great architecture, or lovely scenic lookouts and of course wanting to try great cabernets, pinots and chardonnays.  We sourced a car seat for the youngest member of the tour, Jonathan, and added a visit to the Chocolaterie for him, as well as wineries that had great outdoor areas so he could run around.

John collected the three of them from Melbourne’s CBD on Friday morning and took them first off to Coombe – Melba’s Estate where they could learn about Dame Nellie Melba, her story and the history behind her home and its wonderful buildings.  They loved the history of Melba and were very interested in and loved the buildings – who doesn’t – it’s so exciting to explore ‘behind the hedge’?!

Next we headed to St Huberts for a wine tasting where they thoroughly enjoyed the reds.  Wanting to mix things up a little John then took them to Meletos, knowing they would love the architecture of the whole Stones of the Yarra Valley property but also so they could share a local cider and beer tasting paddle.  After driving them around the lovely buildings it was time to show them Yering Station – where they enjoyed another tasting and had a tour of the cellar door, restaurant and wine cellar and they were impressed with the staggering view and the local Coldstream rock stonework.

By now it was lunchtime and Tokar Estate Winery did them proud with a delightful lunch and wine tasting and Jonathan managed a sleep which was perfect timing so his Dads could enjoy their lunch!

What do you want after a little nap after lunch?  Ice-cream – exactly, so after lunch we visited the Chocolaterie which was a hit with everyone and especially liked by John who loved trying the chocolates and had a yummy ice-cream.

We finished off the day with a relaxing time on the deck for a wine tasting at the lovely Greenstone Vineyard which has one of the best views in the whole Yarra Valley and Jonathan had fun running around on the grass.

At the end of the day, John drove them back into Melbourne and dropped them at Naked for Satan, a restaurant in Brunswick Street where they were catching up with friends.  Us being able to drop  you wherever you need to be dropped is one of the many benefits to doing a private tour; the day is your own, so we can literally tailor it to suit you and we like to work closely with you creating an itinerary you’ll love before your tour. But then another benefit on the day is that we can be flexible – we can spend longer at a winery you’re enjoying, or add in a quick visit to somewhere we pass, time permitting.

So, if you’re visiting from another wine region and want your own VIP tour of the Yarra Valley – give us a call on 03 5962 5940 or fill out our questionnaire and we’ll get back to you with a quote and suggested itinerary.
