Chris and Gemma came away for the weekend to Healesville to celebrate two years together and were looking for a tour just for the two of them the next day, which miraculously we were able to arrange!   So, Joan collected them from their accomodation at the Healesville Grand Hotel at 11am and incorporated their requests into their day’s itinerary – which is the beauty of being on a personalised private tour.

And so they set off to Coombe Melba Estate for their first Yarra Valley wine tasting of the day and it was such a beautiful day they decided to sit outside with a glass of rosé and cab enjoying the view of the clock tower and restored buildings.  They understandably loved all the Dame Nellie Melba memorabilia, especially knowing they were at her former home.

As both Gemma and Chris are cider and beer lovers, Joan made their next stop Meletos where they got a paddle each to again enjoy outside.  Once again they loved the buildings and atmosphere and discussed how great a place it would be for a wedding with a really excellent (tho it’s a fair way from Geelong where they live)!

By now they were feeling a little hungry so Joan decided to drop in to Many Hands Winery for one of Tony’s Italian wood fired pizzas with a glass of their wine as well.  They had a fun and interesting wine tasting with Brendan and decided to buy some wine to help fill up their 48 bottle wine rack!!

After lunch Joan called into boutique cellar door Maddens Rise where Ben gave them a fabulous insight into their wine making techniques and wine varieties which was interesting for Gemma whose family is Italian. The highlight of their tour occurred at Maddens when they met the cute gosling that owner Emma was looking after – it’s from a fabulous pet friendly farmstay property up to the road, Wiggley Bottom Farm and had been mistreated so was having some time out with Emma!

Once again they bought a few more bottles of wine for the wine rack before Joan set off for the last stop of the day at Boat 0’Craigo where their Reserve Shiraz was a great hit.  They bought some saying they would lay it down for a few years, but Joan wonders how long they’ll manage that for, as they loved it!!!

Joan dropped the delightful pair back to the Grand Hotel around 5.30pm so they had time to freshen up before walking up to Four Pillars Gin for a tasting before deciding which Healesville restaurant to try for dinner.

They were joining family the next day at Healesville Sanctuary before heading back home to Geelong after a fun and busy weekend in the Yarra Valley.
