Jesper & Heather wanted a tour of the Yarra Valley with their family, which comprised their 1 year old daughter Marianna, Jesper’s parents – Alexandra & Fleming – and his sister Helene who was visiting from Denmark. What nicer way to spend time together than being collected from your home, and then being driven around the Yarra Valley’s beautiful wineries, all in your own private tour, en famille!
We made their first stop in the Yarra Valley at the award winning Medhurst Wines for a wine tasting with Bidelia. The group were made very welcome and enjoyed their tasting and the impressive view and were thrilled to purchase some Australian wine.
Wanting to show them one of the Yarra Valley’s truly boutique wineries, we then headed to Squitchy Lane for a tasting where they were lucky enough to meet and chat with Squitchy’s wine-maker, which was a treat given how busy he must be with vintage. They particularly liked the Chardonnay (and we concur, it’s a favourite of ours too!).
To mix things up a bit and show the group that we don’t just grow terrific wine here in the Yarra Valley, we took them next to Meletos for a Napoleon cider and beer tasting outside in the garden and they loved the whole concept; the buildings, the view, the providore/apples grown next door etc.
By now it was time for lunch at Tokar Estate where they were lucky enough to sit outside on the balcony with views of the roses and beyond out across the valley. Tokar’s rosé was a hit with lunch and everyone had an extremely relaxed and enjoyable time. Even little Marianna enjoyed her fish and chips and she was a delight to have on tour!
Our final wine tasting for the day was at St Huberts where we knew they would enjoy sitting outside by the magnificent elm trees enjoying a glass of wine to round off the tour with some cheese platters.
We dropped them home to Black Rock by 6.30pm, relaxed, replete and happy after a great family day out together in our beautiful Yarra Valley.
