Julian and Philippa were coming to the Yarra Valley for a friend’s wedding and decided to come a day early and enjoy a wine tour of the Yarra Valley, given that it’s a famous cool climate wine growing region and they are both lovers of good wine.
Staying at gorgeous historical accommodation at Graceburn Gardens in Healesville, the couple flew in from Sydney on Saturday morning and by the time Joan collected them at 2pm, they were hungry so Joan suggested they go straight to Medhurst Wines. There they enjoyed a wine tasting with the fabulously friendly and knowledgeable Bidelia followed by a Fisherman’s Platter washed down with a glass of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, sitting by the beautiful fire watching the rain come down. Wine purchases were made as they loved the wines.
Boutique winery Maddens Rise was next on the itinerary, for a wine tasting with Simon, the Vineyard Manager who was manning the fort while gorgeous owners Emma and Justin were away in Italy.
They loved the decor of this modern cellar door and the lovely natural surroundings and Simon was really interesting and explained to them all about the hand picking, crushing process etc and again they sat by the fire while they enjoyed their wines. More purchases occurred!!
Philippa had requested we visit Levantine Hill as there was a family connection and the pair loved the great building, its wonderful view and equally fabulous wines.
By the end of the day they had amassed an impressive 10 bottles of wine and were laughing about how to carry them back on the plane on Monday. They were looking forward to enjoying a bottle that night to help wash down the rather huge amount of cheese they had bought from legendary deli Kitchen & Butcher in Healesville earlier in the day!
Joan finished off their afternoon’s tour with a visit to Healesville’s Four Pillars Gin where they were very impressed with the Distillery and the gin choices and after their gin tasting paddle, Simon insisted they complete their day with a gin cocktail!!
Amazingly, Joan had the pair back to their accommodation at Graceburn Gardens by 6pm where they were looking forward to a relaxing night with wine and cheese.
It was a great fun day with many laughs and we managed to fit so much into their half day tour and they were looking forward to the wedding on Sunday and catching up with family on Monday before flying back to Sydney.
Joan loved the couple so much she offered to take them, free of charge, to their friend’s wedding the following day at Riverstone Winery.
