We love it when food-lovers contact us about coming and visiting our region, as we have such an array of seasonal produce we grow here in the Yarra Valley and can take people to see, pick and enjoy. So when Isabella from Sydney contacted us saying she wanted to celebrate her boyfriend’s 21st birthday, she specifically didn’t want a wine tour, they wanted FOOD!
So we went back and forth and worked out an itinerary they were excited about and John picked them up from Crown Metropol and their first stop was Gateway Estate to pick some strawberries then on to the iconic Yarra Valley Dairy for cheese tasting and coffee. And boy did they love all the different types of cheeses and tastings.
We fitted in a visit to Chandon just to look at the beautiful views and the Riddling Room and cellars as they are all so impressive.
Lunch was scrumptious at Meletos and they had a relaxing time there – and that’s the beauty of having your own personalised tour – you get to linger longer at places you’re enjoying; there isn’t a tight schedule you have to adhere to.
Knowing they loved cheese, we headed to De Bortoli’s as they have a phenomenal cheese cave and of course their amazing wines. After this the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie was a great choice for a hit of chocolate and ice-cream indulgence!
Then, instead of returning to the city John was only too happy to take them to Cranbourne Racecourse, where they were excited about going to the harness races – great to experience new things for your 21st. After the races they were heading back to the city to enjoy another night at Crown.
Isabella is studying accountancy and economics at NSW university and David works for Apple and they really enjoyed their break from study and work here in the Yarra Valley with Tour the Valley so much they sent John a text that night thanking him for making the day so special, saying they will treasure the memories forever and said what a star he was for going out of his way to take them to Cranbourne.
They said they hope to see us soon for another tour, and we feel the same – we do love the gorgeous people we meet through touring them through the wonders of our Yarra Valley!
