Marj from the Phillipines had read some great reviews about Tour the Valley and seen gorgeous photos we'd posted up of various tours who had lunched at Tokar Estate with their beautiful view and gardens, so when she got in touch and explained she was looking for a tour for her in-laws and husband who weren't all that into wine, we put together a lovely day out for them that took in some of the Yarra Valley's gardens and historic homes as well as Healesville shops.
John collected Marj and her group from Oaks on Collins in Melbourne on Wednesday and drove them out to the Yarra Valley. They were on holiday in Australia and were in Melbourne for few days and thought they'd get out to the countryside for a bit.
Knowing they would be amazed by the history of Coombe Estate, we made that our first visit for the day, and they were fascinated to hear about Dame Nellie Melba and interested in all the memorabilia.
John then took them over to Alowyn Gardens where they were very impressed with the layout of the gardens, inspired by those European stately home gardens, and the variety of plants and beautiful blooms that seemed to be every where you turned. The wisteria was out, the roses were amazing, the wild flowers were prolific and they loved the parterre.
After a great time at Alowyn, we drove them to Tokar Estate Winery for a fabulous wine tasting where they chose their favourite wine to enjoy as a complimentary glass with their 2-course lunch. They had a lovely relaxing time chatting over their lunch and enjoyed the location with its brilliant view.
After lunch there was time to drive in to Healesville for a quick look around the shops and they made some purchases of gorgeous cheeses and condiments from the amazing deli Kitchen & Butcher and loved the enormous and high end variety of goods available.
We fitted in a stop at Maroondah Dam's lookout to enjoy the view and learn about Melbourne's water supply.
John had them back to their hotel in the city by 5.30 pm after a great day out in the Yarra Valley, tailored just for them.
